Ehm ehm. *Apple clears her throat* Geez, this is hard to explain...loads of symbolism...*Apple clears her throat again*Ehm, ehm.

Okay then, let's give it a try.

Basically, the main idea is that Severus metaphorically "killed himself" (that is, the true him, the withdrawn but sweet boy that he once was) when he joined the DeathEaters. That's why the Dark Mark is compared to blood-dripping slit veins on his forearm...because it is a symbol of death and self-destruction.

Moreover, joining the DeathEaters he ended up harming also Lily, who is portrayed by the omonymous flower. In the first instance he ruined his relationship with her, and lost her forever, but wasn't able to let go the memory of her (and this is why the lilium fell far away from his hand, but the stem still lies in its palm). And then, of course, caused to her (even if not purposedly and not by is own hand) much plight and eventually death. It wasn't intentional, but I like the fact that the flower looks like it, too, is bleeding.

So...uhm...that's pretty much all there is to say, I guess.

CREDITS:
The arm is mine. Believe it or not. :D
The Blood, the flower, and the stem were found around the internet and, shame on me, I failed noting down where they came from. If you recognise anything belonging to you, please let me know and I'll give you full credit (if you can provide evidence for your claim, of course).
The DarkMark was extracted directly from the movie.

LYRICS USED IN THE BACKGROUND come from:
"Man that you fear" by Mr. Marilyn Manson
"Tourniquet" by my beloved Evanescence
"Hand Of Sorrow" by Within Temptation, that firstly gave inspiration to this composition and from which comes the title.

Okey dokey, that's really all, folks!

Critiques, praise, and comments in general are always very very very MUCH appreciated. :)
